Apple Acquires Pi
In a press release today, Apple Computer reported its acquisition of the number Pi for an undisclosed sum. According to Apple sources, Pi will be re-branded as Apple Pi and used as entry point into the lucrative scientific market.
Apple Pi will be free to individuals for personal, non-commercial use. Otherwise, Apple Pi will be licensed on a per-use basis, with discounts given to volume buyers and universities.
Continuing in its tradition of user-friendliness, Apple will bundle its popular line of iMac computers with a special version of Apple Pi which will have a value of "just over 3".
"Our research shows that today's average consumer is not interested in calculating Pi to the nth decimal place," explained an Apple spokesperson. "Instead, they want a friendly sort of Pi, a Pi that's not afraid to be a little offbeat but doesn't keep on about it".
Industry analysts called Apple's latest action an "irrational move".
